Reports

The TxSSC is a non-profit organization funded in part through a direct appropriation from the Texas Legislature within Texas State University's budget. Additional funding is secured via grants and contracts from other funding sources to include the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of State Health Services.

2022-2025 Charter Audit Report (CAR)

The purpose of the CAR is to provide key results of the safety and security audits completed by Texas open-enrollment charter districts (herein referred to as charter districts). The Texas Education Code (TEC) requires districts to complete safety and security audits of their facilities once every three years. A district, or a person included in the registry established by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC), must follow safety and security audit procedures developed by the TxSSC (TEC §37.108(b)). Audits are conducted with the aim of identifying hazards, threats, and vulnerabilities that might pose a danger to life or property and/or may interfere with a safe, secure, and healthy environment that is conducive to primary and secondary education.

2021-2024 Junior College Audit Report (JCAR)

The purpose of the JCAR is to provide key results of the safety and security audits completed by Texas public junior community college districts (herein referred to as junior college districts). In accordance with procedures developed by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) or an equivalent public or private entity, the Texas Education Code (TEC) requires junior college districts to complete safety and security audits of their facilities once every three years (§37.108 (4)(b)). Audits are conducted with the aim of identifying hazards, threats, and vulnerabilities that might pose a danger to life or property and/or may interfere with a safe, secure, and healthy environment that is conducive to higher education.

2020-2023 District Audit Report (DAR)

The purpose of the DAR is to provide key results of the safety and security audits completed by Texas independent school districts. The Texas Education Code (TEC) requires districts to complete safety and security audits of their facilities once every three years, in accordance with procedures developed by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) or a person included in the registry established by the TxSSC (§37.108(b)).

2017 Texas Public Junior Colleges Safety and Security Needs Assessment Report

The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) serves public junior colleges in Texas by providing education, training and resources relating to safety, security and health. Therefore, it is important to conduct regular needs assessments in order to ensure that the information provided is relevant and applicable to the current safety needs of junior colleges. Toward this aim, the TxSSC conducted a needs assessment of all Texas public junior colleges in the spring of 2017.

Texas School Safety Practices Survey Report

The purpose of this survey was to identify practices currently being used to promote safety in schools, and to assess any contextual aspects of these practices. In collecting this information, the Texas School Safety Center aimed to develop a more translational approach to school safety, which can be used by schools in diverse settings throughout the state. This survey was completed by administrators, teachers, and law enforcement in schools across Texas. The results of this study will inform the basis for future targeted and transferable research on school safety.

Campus Safety and Security Needs Assessment Report

The Texas School Safety Center strives to provide accurate and relevant research-based information that supports the development of education, training, and other resources and guidance to promote school safety. To this end, TxSSC periodically conducts a needs assessment survey to examine safety concerns among school administrators, and to assess the best way to distribute relevant information. The results from this assessment are used to inform future research and guide education efforts to ensure the center continue to provide relevant information, based in the most current and effective evidence-based practices.
