    The K-12 Standard Response Protocol (SRP) Toolkit offers guidance and resources for incorporating the Standard Response Protocol into a school safety plan for critical incident response within individual schools in a school district.

  • Hazard Communication Worker Right-to-Know Program (DSHS)

    The Hazard Communication Worker Right-to-Know Program protects the health and safety of public employees by ensuring that public employers provide information, training, and appropriate personal protective equipment to their employees who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals in their workplaces.

  • Local Emergency Planning Committees (TCEQ)

    The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality website has a link to the document that lists all the Texas Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC). This is who you contact if you have questions about hazardous materials near your district facilities. Most Texas counties have a single LEPC; however, some counties have multiple LEPCs that serve individual cities or communities in that county.

    The Chemical Management Resource Guide for School Administrators delivers guidance that applies to any school that purchases, uses, stores, or disposes of chemicals or products containing dangerous materials. This document is designed primarily for school administrators (principals and other policymakers), but may also be of value to teachers, maintenance personnel, superintendents, school business officials, insurance industry risk managers, and parents.

    The Emergency Response Guidebook: A Guidebook for First Responders During the Initial Phase of a Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials Transportation Incident provides a go-to manual for hazmat transportation by providing tables for markings, labels, placards, and DOT numbers for various chemicals. It is used by emergency response personnel in Canada, Mexico, and the United States when responding to a transportation emergency involving hazardous materials.

    The Hazardous Materials Incidents provides information and resources for the public on responding to Hazardous Materials incidents. Provides information on what to do before, during, and after an incident. Available in English and Spanish.

    The Preparation and Planning for Chemical Emergencies is a list of preparation and planning resources related specifically to chemical emergencies. Topics addressed are sheltering, evacuation, decontamination, public health, and additional resources.

    The Safety Checklist Program for Schools; Appendix D is a safety checklist that provides resources and procedures on how to navigate a chemical spill as well as examples. Compliance with NIOSH regulations is essential to ensure the safe and effective resolution of hazardous materials spills.

    The School Chemistry Laboratory Safety Guide provides basic information about important components of safety in the chemistry laboratory and serves as a resource to locate further information. Support for laboratory safety programs is the responsibility of school system administrators.
