What does a safe school look like to you?
My Friends
Today, I want to talk about how my social environment makes me feel comfortable and safe in my school. Many times, some people enter school with the fear of saying "who will I hang out with." However, as time goes by, one gets used to the best places where you can stay. School helps you to make friends and allows teachers to also interact with the students. When you are with your friends you feel confident. This helps to do more things like present or speak in projects. By doing this you do not put limits on yourself. It is great support and that is one of the many reasons why I like going to school, to see my friends and know what new adventure awaits us at school.

Safe Inside and Out
Clear backpacks are a secure school regulation because they show what a student is carrying, and it makes sure you do not mean harm to the campus. Feeling safe in a school setting does not always have to be about violence though. A lot of the time, music is used as a coping mechanism. It can also be used for concentrating and to calm your anxiety. Some school staff members don’t understand that anxiety can affect performance. It is important to note that mental health is a key factor for a student to be able to succeed in school.

Kindness Matters: Creating a Positive School Culture
My artwork contains a descriptive situation that highlights how students often feel that they do not belong at school. As a student that has felt that way, I imagined a school where students are saying positive words to a student struggling with negative thoughts. The drawing in my mind shows a place where bullying does not exist, and where other kids are trying to make things better for someone not to feel fear of judgment. The idea of a safe school is important to me, and I think it is something that we should all strive for. Kindness should matter and no one should feel left out for who they are.

Traffic Stop
The stop sign makes me feel safe at school because it helps control traffic and keeps cars from speeding through areas where students walk. It reminds drivers to slow down and look out for people crossing the street, especially during busy times like drop-off and pick-up. Knowing that cars are required to stop gives me confidence that I can cross safely and that others are watching out for me. It is a small sign, but it plays a significant role in keeping everyone safe.

Safe Space
My artwork was inspired by the Communities In Schools room at my school, which is my safe place.

A Peace of Cole
My artwork was inspired by all my friends that go to school with me on a military base, which includes a lot of people from different backgrounds and have different interests. A safe school to me is an environment where these students can thrive. My artwork shows students from ROTC, Culinary, Athletics, and Band all together enjoying a peaceful day outside. That to me represents not only what every school should be, but a safe school.

Collective Space
Each animal is heading towards the same place. However, they are in their different spaces and require different things. On their road to graduation, they each gain the necessary support for their individual needs to become a collective group.

FIRE
A safe school, to me, is a prepared one. I appreciate having fire alarms in the building because they help keep everyone aware and ready in case of an emergency. A safe school is one that takes precautions at all costs. To me, safety means not having to worry and knowing that a fire alarm is in place, which gives me peace of mind.

Locked In
A safe school is secure where doors are always locked. A locked door reassures the kids that they are safe.
