Threats Are No Joke! Public Awareness Campaign

As Texas students return to school this fall, the Texas School Safety Center has launched a public awareness campaign to give districts proactive tools to educate students and parents about the serious consequences of making or sharing threats. Intended for grades 4-12, the campaign includes a powerful PSA video and supporting resources, including teacher guides, a parent guide, conversation starters, social media graphics, and posters, to share the message Threats Are No Joke! - Don't do it. Don't share it. Report it!

2025-2026 Multi-hazard Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) Review Cycle

On September 2, 2025, the Texas School Safety Center will request the Basic Plan and Active Threat for Schools Annex of all independent school districts, open-enrollment charter school districts, and junior/community colleges in accordance with TEC 37.2071. Districts must submit plans within the 30-day window ending on October 2, 2025. The new Expedited Review Pilot Program offers one-on-one virtual technical assistance to reduce the time necessary to achieve EOP compliance.

Active Threat for Schools Toolkit

The Active Threat for Schools Toolkit provides resources to assist districts when creating an Active Threat for Schools Annex to their multi-hazard emergency operations plan. This annex ensures policies and procedures are in place to protect students, faculty, and staff from an active threat incident. The toolkit includes evaluation criteria, templates for the annex and recommended appendices, examples, an Active Threat for Schools Annex online course, and additional resources. School Safety and Security Committee Guidelines

Texas Education Code specifically describes who shall serve on a School Safety and Security Committee, how often they shall meet and what they are charged to implement. This committee must actively participate in developing and implementing emergency plans for campuses and other facilities.
