4.0 Tabletop Exercises

This section provides tabletop exercises for use in school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, or public junior colleges. Tabletop exercises are small group discussions that walk through a scenario and the courses of action a school will need to take before, during, and after an incident to lessen the impact on the school community. Participants problem-solve together through detailed discussion of roles, responsibilities, and anticipated courses of action. Tabletop exercises leverage a defined scenario to direct discussion and may need an experienced facilitator, depending on the complexity and objectives of the exercise.

For the Psychological Resilience Annex, there is no specific tabletop exercise dedicated to this particular annex. The Psychological Resilience Annex is considered a functional annex within the EOP Development Series and is engaged as needed when a hazard occurs (such as an active threat or severe weather). Because of this, here are some possible options for those wanting to perform a tabletop exercise for their district's Psychological Resilience Annex:

Psychological Resilience Tabletop Exercise

  • Option 1: With your team, walk through the scenarios and appropriate actions and assess how they would apply to your district specifically. Each care program identified by TEA will differ slightly in the approach taken to support the person experiencing grief or trauma.
  • Option 2: Insert grief-informed and trauma-informed care approaches from your chosen program into your tabletop exercises for a hazard. Focus on who will engage and follow through with the major actions of the care program to ensure psychological resilience.
