School Safety Law Toolkit

House Bill 781

Effective Date: September 1, 2021

Establishes that written regulations may not require a public junior college school marshal to store a handgun in a locked container while on duty. A school marshal may carry a concealed handgun; however, a handgun carried or possessed by a school marshal on school grounds must be loaded with frangible, TCOLE approved ammunition only. (Removed the requirement that written regulations adopted by a public junior college governing board requires a school marshal to keep their handgun locked in a secured safe, if the primary duty of the school marshal involves regular, direct contact with students, unless conducting the primary marshal’s primary duty.)
