House Bill 2929

Effective Date: Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year

Limits the amount of continuing education training required every five years for teachers in multiple topics including recognizing early warning indicators that a student may be at risk of dropping out of school and educating diverse student populations. Training in a topic of instruction described in excess of the required amount of hours shall be counted toward the teacher's overall training requirements.

Continuing education requirements for a counselor must provide that at least 25 percent of training required every five years include instruction regarding multiple topics including counseling students concerning mental health conditions and substance abuse, including through the use of grief-informed and trauma-informed interventions and crisis management and suicide prevention strategies.
