Threat Assessment and Management for Educators and Administrators
3.0 Central Questions in Threat Assessment
Two central questions must be answered by the threat assessment team when faced with an individual who has the potential for violence:
- How do we balance the right of an individual to a free and appropriate public education with the right of the rest of the individuals within the school to be safe?
- Has the individual in question simply “made” a threat, or does this individual “pose a threat”? In other words, has the individual engaged in behaviors that pose a threat for violence, or has he/she solely expressed a threat without those concerning behaviors?
